PUNTA CANA ECOLOGICAL FOUNDATION
The PUNTACANA Ecological Foundation (PCEF) is a not-for-profit foundation established in 1994 to protect and preserve the natural resources of the Punta Cana region, while contributing to the sustainable development of the Dominican Republic.
Positive Legacy teamed up with the Punta Cana Ecological Foundation in 2013 to move forward with a five-year project entitled Fuentes di Vida. This project consists of a three-part system to insure clean water for the 500 residents in the community of Domigo Maiz. The three aspects of this grant funded project are: constructing a natural waste-water treatment system which will allow for flushing toilets and keeping contaminating water out of the local aquifer; as the aquifer is bouncing back, funding has been granted to the community to have a clean water delivery system for the residents; and the third element is a trash pick-up system to allow residents to keep waste off the ground which can add to aquifer contamination.
