Grace at the Greenlight Benefit Show, Service Day & Free Funk Fest

POST EVENT UPDATE (5.10.18)

We would like to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to ALL of our friends, supporters, and volunteers who helped to make our Benefit Show and Funk Fest for the Homeless such a GREAT success last week!!!

We had an awesome time with you, our clients, and all the guests who came to both events. Without you, we could not have made these events happen.  The time and effort that each of you gave to support these events will not go unnoticed. We appreciate your support toward the cause of Grace at the Green Light and the homeless of New Orleans.

Because of YOU and all who were involved in putting these events on, we were able to raise $10,000.    With this funding we will be able to feed over 2,000 nutritious meals to our homeless clients.  Plus, we will reunite 11 homeless clients with a loved one, assisting them to find permanent housing and achieve stability in their lives.

Without your support last Wednesday and Thursday, all these great gifts would not be possible. We work toward treating all persons in a loving manner and embrace their human spirit.

Thank you for partnering with us. We hope you will continue to partner with us in the upcoming year.

****RECAP FROM GRACE AT THE GREENLIGHT MAY 18, 2018****

We had an amazing night of music and giving during our benefit on Wed. May 2nd. All 22 musicians played some incredible music. The Voodoo Two Lounge was filled with friends and supporters of Grace at the Green Light , as well as, with those just walking by. We raised enough funds during this benefit to provide over 2,000 meals to those on the streets and provide bus tickets for 12 individuals to return home.

This event would not have happened without the support of the following groups and businesses:

  • Soul Project NOLA who played at both events and coordinated all the musicians

  • Sir Speedy Printing for providing printing services & Damon Bowie, artist of benefit poster, gave us an amazing event poster which all the musicians signed and is for sale.

(Signed posters are still for sale. If you are interested in getting one contact us at toni@graceatthegreenlight.org)

  • Positive Legacy who brought amazing volunteers from all over the country and helped make this event happen & Louder than Digital who helped us connect with a broad social media audience.

  • Most of all, to ALL the volunteers and supporters who came out, gave their time and money to Grace at the Green Light so that we are able to make a difference in the lives of those living on the streets

From all of us at Grace at the Green Light, we all say a heartfelt THANK YOU.

Grace at the Greenlight is a 501c3 non profit organization with the mission to take care of New Orleans’ homeless’ basic needs – food, water and community. They serve a hot, full breakfast 365 days a year and reunite persons into a permanent home with a family member or loved one.  Since June 2014, they have served over 80,000 meals, passed out hundreds of thousands of bottles of water and sent almost 1400 people home. For more info, visit http://www.graceatthegreenlight.org/

Positive Legacy is a 501c3 organization dedicated to integrating music and service to benefit people and the environment. Positive Legacy will partner with Grace at the Greenlight to present a Day of Service & FREE Funk Fest for the New Orleans homeless on May 3rd. For more info, visit https://positivelegacy.com/

Join Grace at the Greenlight and Positive Legacy as we serve breakfast to the homeless and treat them to a FREE FUNK FEST on Wednesday May 3rd. There will be two volunteer shifts at 6:15am and 10:15am. The 6:15 am shift will serve breakfast to the homeless, and the 10:15 am shift will help with the free funk fest. Contact ann@positivelegacy.com to register.

Grace supporters, the Fat Bankers’ Social Aid & Pleasure Club, was founded as a Mardi Gras group dedicated to bringing funk to the people though Mardi Gras floats. It has built its most recent float, the Funky Uncle Lounge, as a rolling sound stage with studio quality sound. A mission of this creation is to bring free, quality music (funk of course) to the New Orleans community throughout the year. The first of these community shows will be Thursday May 3rd.

We will pay it forward to volunteers by treating them to a pre-night of funk with Eddie Roberts of the New Mastersounds, Soul Project and friends on May 2nd at Voo Doo Two Lounge, starting at 6pm. New Orleans and its community are part of the genesis for Funk music worldwide.  Funk is the soul of NOLA and its people. We are bringing FREE FUNK to the people! There’s NO COVER CHARGE for the show on May 2nd and DONATIONS for the homeless will kindly be accepted at the door.

Grace believes community is a basic human need, whether it’s people sharing a meal or someone getting home to a loved one. We believe that the integration of the homeless, volunteers, Positive Legacy and Fat Banker communities in New Orleans during Jazz Fest is the perfect way to use our collective souls in breaking down the social barriers that bind minds and create a false image of separateness.
