Carbon Offset - Trees Water & People

jam-cruise-15.jpg

Positive Legacy and Trees, Water & People make it easy to travel responsibly by offsetting the emissions from your travel to Dominican Republic for Holy Ship! Wrecked. Since our partnership began in 2007, we have planted over 200,000 trees that sequester CO2 and have provided 500 clean cookstoves to reduce emissions from cooking with firewood, improving family health. Together, we offer music festival attendees an opportunity to offset their CO2 footprint, including the emissions required to get you to the festival, plus your share of the festival emissions themselves. A CO2 offset is a voluntary donation to TWP that helps us fund these initiatives in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Empower yourself to leave a Positive Legacy at Closer to the Sun by OFFSETTING YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT HERE…because every party has an impact!

Thank You ShipFam! : Recap of Holy Ship! 12.0 & 13.0

Positive Legacy is extremely grateful for the growing support of the ShipFam community. We are incredibly honored to see returning faces who support us year after year, and to also meet so many new faces who were excited to get involved.  Thank you for learning to “give a ship” and Leave A Positive Legacy!

Thanks to the support of our ShipFam and the artists, we raised a record-breaking amount of $26,000 on Holy Ship! 12.0 + 13.0!!

Both auctions had our biggest fan turnout, and raised a total $17,529! We received some especially unique and thoughtful donations this year from both the fans, including custom wood wall hangs, handmade captains hats, and OG flash apparel. We also received donations from the likes of Dirtybird, Tchami, GRiZ, What So Not, Manila Killa, SAYMYNAME, Boogie T, Skepsis, Subset and The Instigators. And for the first time ever, we commissioned two one-of-a-kind Holy Ship! wrapped turntables signed by the artists.

With funds raised this year, we have chosen to support a cause very near and dear to our hearts; all proceeds from the pre-cruise raffles, pre-parties and on-board charity auctions will benefit coral reef restoration throughout The Bahamas. In the past few decades, coral reefs around the world have been rapidly declining, and an estimated 20% of reefs worldwide have already been lost. With numerous local, regional and global threats facing coral reefs, the ability of reefs to support biodiversity and ecosystem services has been compromised. Our donations will directly fund the establishment of coral nurseries, and their maintenance, management, outplanting and monitoring.

Our friends at FAM AF provided more ways than ever to party with a purpose. They donated a portion of Illuminaughty robe sales, pre-party proceeds and kickbacks from the reservations at the International Palms Resort & Conference Center and the Vitalounge IV Treatment. We are eternally grateful for their donations, dedication and creativity in helping us grow.

Guests were also able to travel responsibly to Port Canaveral by offsetting their carbon emissions by making a donation to our partner Tress, Water & People. Carbon offset donations support rural communities in Central America and Haiti by supplying more efficient cook stoves and fund tree nurseries to produce firewood, fruit production and create healthy soils while sequestering carbon.

We are already looking forward to seeing our ShipFam and sailing together again in 2020! We encourage you to think about the different ways that you can get involved next year, including donating to our Charity Auction and pre-cruise raffles, offsetting your carbon footprint, volunteering a few hours of your time on-board, or spreading the word about our organization to your friends and Fam. Like our page on Facebook, Positive Legacy ShipFam, to stay informed throughout the year.

  • Donating a portion of the pre-cruise party revenues

  • Helping to organize and promote the pre-cruise activities and the on-board auction

  • Creating specialty items for PL and the ShipFam

  • Recruiting volunteers

It is support from folks like FAM AF that help Positive Legacy does great work in the Bahamas and around the Caribbean. You are truly what makes ShipFam the BEST FAM!!

Offset Your Carbon Footprint

In partnership with award winning environmental nonprofit Trees, Water & People (TWP), you can still offset your portion of our party’s carbon emissions. Our goal is to offset 100% of the ship’s emissions! Cruisers are also asked to consider their carbon footprint from their air travel to/from Cocoa Beach. To-date, Positive Legacy and Cloud 9 event guests have funded the planting of almost 220,000 trees, and built over 600 cookstoves that save wood-fuel and clean up smoky kitchens in Central America.

What is a carbon offset? A “carbon offset” is a unit of carbon dioxide (CO2) that is reduced, avoided or sequestered to compensate for emissions occurring elsewhere.

How will Trees, Water & People offset Holy Ship! carbon emissions? Reforestation in Central America - On average, one tree planted by TWP can sequester one ton of carbon over its lifetime. To account for natural mortality rates, TWP plants four trees per one ton offset. Trees are planted on private and public lands as part of a community-led reforestation program, and produce fruit, fodder, timber and soil health for local communities.

Why offset your Holy Ship! experience? This party has an impact! During our 3 or 4 day voyages we will produce approximately 1,500 - 1,800 tons of carbon dioxide and other emissions. By supporting TWP’s reforestation efforts in Central America, we can collectively reduce the negative environmental impacts of the cruise ship while supporting sustainable development projects that help people and the planet.

What is the cost? $15 per 1.5 tons per 2 Cruisers OR $30 per 3 tons per 4 Cruisers

Offset your carbon footprint HERE and take this opportunity to feel empowered and leave your own positive legacy on Holy Ship!

The Positive Legacy Charity Auction

We are pleased to announce that Positive Legacy was able to raise just over $25,000 in this year’s charity auction and pre-cruise raffles!  Your support will enable us to make a large contribution to All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response to rebuild schools in communities affected by the hurricanes in the U.S. and Eastern Caribbean. Auction proceeds will also support Positive Legacy’s continued environmental & humanitarian projects. Thank you to all of the Holy Ship! fans who bid in the auction. Bahamas Emergency Children's Hostel Update

On Holy Ship! 9.0, we hosted our first ever Day of Service & Celebration at the Hostel. Together, we helped with work on the facilities grounds as well as spending some quality time playing with and entertaining the children living there. We sang songs and danced together, played with One World Play Soccer Balls we brought as gifts, served the kids lunch, and helped around the grounds cleaning up and with other lawn maintenance.

Although we did not visit the children of Nassau this year, you can read all about the grant & good work we did HERE!

Offset Your Carbon Footprint

Positive Legacy and Trees, Water & People made it easy to travel responsibly, by offsetting the emissions from your travel to Dominican Republic for Dominican Holidaze. We appreciate those that donated and your generosity helped to fund tree planting and clean cookstove construction in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Cuba. If you were unable to offset you footprint at the event, please take this opportunity to feel empowered post event and leave your own positive legacy …because every party has an impact!

Hurricane Relief + The Gift of Education

We at Positive Legacy and Cloud 9 Adventures were deeply saddened by the destruction caused by the recent hurricanes that made landfall in the USA and Eastern Caribbean. In 2018, Positive Legacy and Cloud 9 Adventures partnered with Norwegian Cruise Lines and All Hands Volunteers to rebuild schools in communities devastated by the storms.

Funds raised on board Holy Ship! 10.0 and 11.0 helped to provide a grant to All Hands Volunteers with Norwegian Cruise Lines matching the dollars raised by Positive Legacy. These funds have been put to work in Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Cuba and the Florida Keys, rebuilding safe, resilient schools for children in these communities.

All Hands Volunteers is a US-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that addresses the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters by engaging and leveraging volunteers, partner organizations and local communities. Their vision is to demonstrate the power and value of volunteer service through the tangible work done, the hope it brings to suffering communities and the transformative experiences it provides for volunteers.

Recap of our Positive Legacy Programs During Holy Ship! 2017

Day of Service with Positive Legacy

Perhaps our most exciting addition to this year’s program was our first ever Day or Service & Celebration on Holy Ship! 9.0, at the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel. A very special thanks to our inaugural guests who joined us at the Hostel. We can’t express enough appreciation for the HS! 9.0 team and the group who shared how grateful they were for an opportunity to give back while on board the ship. Thanks to all who came out to participate in on this day!

The Positive Legacy Auction Raised Just Over $14,000

We are pleased to announce that Positive Legacy was able to raise over $14,000.00 in this year’s charity auction, making it the best auction in 8.0 & 9.0 history! Auction proceeds will support Positive Legacy’s environmental & humanitarian projects including the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel in Nassau, which provides temporary accommodation, food, clothing, medical care and other necessities for the benefit of abandoned and neglected children, until more permanent arrangements can be made for their welfare. Our support will provide provisions at the facility that houses approximately 35 children – leaving a positive legacy for the children of Nassau far beyond our visit! Thank you to all of the Holy Ship! fans who bid in the auction, and a special thank you to the musicians and their management, the fan/artists for supporting the auction with their custom donations.

Offset Your Carbon Footprint

Positive Legacy and Trees, Water & People also helped guests to travel responsibly by offsetting the carbon emissions from their travel to Port Canaveral for Holy Ship! These carbon offset donations help Guatemalan families reduce their firewood consumption by 50%, help Haitian families plant fruit trees that will nourish their kids and generate income, and help Honduran families switch from kerosene lanterns to clean solar lighting.

Partner Information

Positive Legacy continues our support of local Bahamas based partner, the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel. Over the past several years, Holy Ship! passengers have donated supplies and enabled Positive Legacy to provide a grant of $6,825 to support needed food, supplies and provisions at the facility that houses approximately 35 children.

Established in 1962, the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel provides temporary accommodation, food, clothing, medical care and other necessities for the benefit of abandoned and neglected children, until more permanent arrangements can be made for their welfare. The facility houses children aged six weeks to eleven years with an average length of residency at the Hostel of one year.

We are incredibly grateful for an ever increasing interest and support for what we do, and we were happy to see you getting more excited about how you and the whole ShipFam can leave your own Positive Legacy.

Offset Your Carbon Footprint

Positive Legacy and Trees, Water & People made it easy to travel responsibly, by offsetting the emissions from your travel to Miami and your emissions from being on the MSC Divina for HolyShip!

We appreciate those that donated $15 to the carbon offset program, which supports a community tree nursery that is producing 10,000 trees a year for rural communities on the north coast of Haiti, providing the sequestration of thousands of tons of carbon dioxide emissions. If you were unable to offset you footprint at the event, please take this opportunity to feel empowered post event and leave your own positive legacy by visiting treeswaterpeople.org to make a donation!

What is a carbon offset? A “carbon offset” is a unit of carbon dioxide (CO2) that is reduced, avoided or sequestered to compensate for emissions occurring elsewhere.

How will Trees, Water & People offset HolyShip! carbon emissions?

Reforestation in Haiti – On average, one tree planted by TWP can sequester one ton of carbon over its lifetime. To account for natural mortality rates, TWP plants five trees per one ton offset. Trees are planted on private and public lands as part of a community-led reforestation program.

Positive Legacy Recap

Holy Ship! Charity Auction

Positive Legacy would like thank Holy Ship! passengers that supported our mission to integrate music and service to benefit people and the environment. Thanks to the generosity of the Holy Ship! fans and donors who helped make our first auction on January 2nd a success, we raised over $4,600 for charity. Co-hosted by Positive Legacy and The Buntings, proceeds will benefit the Miami based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Guitars Over Guns (GOGO) and Positive Legacy.

GOGO provides mentoring to at-risk youth through music education and performance as an alternative to the gang recruitment, drugs and violence typically dominating their environment. GOGO targets the most vulnerable middle-schoolers, pairing them with professional musicians who use contemporary music to reach and teach these young people the skills they need to be successful in and out of school.

Offset Your Carbon

Positive Legacy and Trees, Water & People  want to thank you for offsetting your carbon emissions from your travel to Miami for Holy Ship! and your emissions from our 3-day voyage on the MSC Divina. Your carbon offset donations can help a Guatemalan family reduce their firewood consumption by 50%, a Haitian family plant fruit trees that will nourish their kids and generate income, and it can also help a Honduran family switch from kerosene lanterns to clean solar lighting.

Holy Ship! School Supplies Donation Drive

The Holy Ship! tradition of a cruiser donation drive continued aboard the ship in this year! Thank you to all of you that brought a gift for our Nassau based beneficiary, the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel.

The Positive Legacy crew personally delivered your donations to the children at the hostel during our stop in Nassau. We had a great day visiting and playing with the kids!

The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel was established in 1962 by the Bahamas Christian Council. The Purpose was to provide  emergency and temporary shelter for abandoned, neglected and abused children aged six weeks to eleven years. Residents who have not been  returned to their relatives, fostered or adopted by age 12 are transferred to a residential home for older children, where they will reside until  age 18. The average length of residency at the Hostel is one year.
