2024 RECAP

We are so incredibly thankful for the AMAZING guests at My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday 2024 and their support of Positive Legacy!!

MIKE'S AMAZING PRESENTS:

DAY OF SERVICE & COMMUNITY CONNECTION 

t was amazing to be back working alongside our OBH Family at the Jardín de niños Eulalia Guzman Elementary School in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. Spirits were high as we boarded the bus and the energy did not stop till we returned. A special thank you to Mike’s Amazing for helping to sponsor our April events.

 

Upon arrival we were greeted by a wonderful group of families and children from the community who came out, on a Saturday, to help us beautify the school grounds. It was truly a day of community collaboration. After a quick rundown of the service projects for the day and quick photo, the crew immediately dispersed and got down to business. 

 

For the next two hours, guests got to work scraping old paint off the wall off the school and applying a rainbow of fresh colors. Some of the guests looked like true works of art themselves, covered in all the fruits of their scrapping efforts! There was some clean up of trash and brush around the campus in the unused areas of the school grounds. Another crew repainted the courtyard games and artwork - from hopscotch to tic tac toe to footprints with the letters of the alphabet, the whole courtyard was left awash with color and fun for years to come! Two different sets of new playground equipment were assembled by teams that were immediately put to use by lines of youngsters ready to play.

 

As the day came to a close, the local children presented us with pictures and notes they laminated and prepared thanking us for our efforts. Hearts were full from this simple gesture along with a special keepsake from the day. And we presented the teachers with several loads of school & medical supplies the festival guests brought in their luggage with them from the States. 

 

The day was capped off with a delicious lunch which we all agreed was the best meal of the week. We boarded the bus with sweat on our backs, paint on clothes and full hearts from an amazing day we will never forget

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

We had a fantastic day on the links playing golf. Over 50 people joined us at the beautiful Hard Rock golf course, which is surrounded by nature. Each hole had gorgeous landscapes and you never knew what animal you might run into. All and all it was a perfect day to be outside with friends and family and the bonus was that Bo Koster joined us for the tournament. 

​

Bo asked us to thank everyone  who came  out for the golf outing. His group finished even par (they played most of his shots, keys are not his only skill).  He spent a chunk of the back doing "dad things" teaching the game and didn't get to play with as many of you as he would have liked. He graciously signed photographs, donated by Josh Timmermans, to be used as prizes and before leaving the course, he was able to chat  with some of his biggest fans. It was positively a great day!

 

 We raised over $5,000 that will cover the cost of a new playground and air conditioning at an elementary school on Puerto Adventures.  So giddy-up!

CHARITY AUCTION

Our Charity Auction raised over $48,000 to support Positive Legacy’s mission and local partners including two local school music programs that will be FULLY funded thanks to the money raised here. A huge shout out to Carl Broemel for the extra special acoustic set to entertain the folks on hand at the auction!!

 

We would also like to thank My Morning Jacket for all their support on site and for giving us the opportunity to share One Big Holiday 2024 together! A big shout out to our new partner, MUSACK, for helping to fund the local music programs - and special thanks to MMJ for helping us make that connection. This new partnership between our organizations will enable us to work together to do more to support kids in Mexico and in the US! 

 

Thanks also to all the creative folks who donated their art, all the artists who took time to sign, as well as Josh Timmermans for donating his beautiful photography. And, most especially to all the event guests who continue to support our efforts to harness the power of music for good!
