THE MEXICO INCIDENT
2024 PROGRAMMING
Day of Service & Sustainable Experience
Monday December, 9th, 2024
Join Positive Legacy and SCI’s Michael Travis in Central Vallarta for a day of giving back, community action and celebration!
Central Vallarta, a small village 20 minutes from Puerto Morelos, was a hub for chicle gum production, a key industry until the 1980s. Today, the town thrives on tourism and residential development, though many residents face challenges due to rising costs and limited local work opportunities.
This will be Positive Legacy’s third visit in 12 years to Central Vallarta. Previous projects included expanding a school in 2003 and building a clinic in 2012. This year, we plan to install a community drinking water filtration system to provide locally accessible clean water, replacing costly bottled water that is trucked into the community.
Activities for the day will include:
• Assembling the water filtration system
• Painting school & murals
• Landscape updates to community park area
• Assembling new playground equipment
• Swimming & zip-lining at the Cenote Verde Lucero (so fun!)
• Lunch & live local music (sometimes local monkeys show up)
Ticket Cost: $100 in advance // $125 at the resort (if available)
Please note: The revenue from ticket sales helps to offset the costs associated with the Day of Service, including supplies and materials, transportation, food, payments for local cooks and musicians, cenote entrance fee, etc. We are always looking for additional financial support to help defray the expenses of this day.
