Mayan Holidaze 2011 Donation Drive Recap

A donation drive supported by guests at Mayan Holidaze in January 2011 resulted in the collection of 5 boxes of school supplies, 2 laptop computers with wireless cards installed, 1 box of first-aid supplies & walking canes, 80 toothbrushes and toothpaste, and more. Positive Legacy worked in conjunction with the DIF of Puerto Morelos to connect with beneficiaries in Riviera Maya Mexico where the event took place. The DIF is an national organization with branches in each city. Their focus is on caring for children’s needs and the elderly in each town.  Thank you to all of the artists and fans who participated!

boKidsFixJam Cruise 9 is headed to Mexico and Honduras…we’ll be back in South Florida for a week before heading down to the Riviera Maya for Mayan Holidaze. Needs assessments and initial plans for outreach projects in Costa Maya, Roatan and Riviera Maya are underway. Artists are getting involved and the excitement is building as we connect with local organizations to see how we can contribute to their environmental and humanitarian efforts. If you have any personal ties to groups in need or any other info you’d like us to know about the places we are headed, send us an email via the contact page. Jamaica Community Center Celebration

More than 100 passengers and musicians visited the Rural Retreat Community Center in Claremont, Jamaica for a day of celebration on Jam Cruise 8 in early 2010. Nearly $25,000 worth of goods were donated including musical instruments to start a marching band, a commercial weed whacker to keep the soccer fields mowed, soccer uniforms and cleats for several teams, school supplies and back packs, laptop computers with wireless cards to start a community computer lab, tables and chairs to outfit the community center, and the list goes on. Our warmest heartfelt thanks to LEBO, who painted an enlivening mural for all to see on the wall of the Center; Toubab Krewe and special guests who played a set and jammed with the locals; Ice Cream Man for trekking into the hills to give away free ice cream to all the children; and last but not least, the Jam Cruise passengers who contributed along with all of the members of the community in Jamaica who made this day so beautiful!
